Nona:

“I wanted to expand the idea I had for my self-portrait, the one exhibited for the show of Paulino Que’s collection.

I consider these portraits as well, and framed and lit them as such.  Unlike conventional portraits, yung makikita yung expression, dito wala lahat ‘yon.  I want the viewer to feel that they can be talking to anybody— bahala na sila, they can connect the dots themselves.

The names on the portraits are fiction.  I tried to imagine what would fit each girl, but they’re really random.

You could even say these works extend from my paintings of people’s backs. Both sets of portraits are devoid of (my subjects’) expressions. Except in this series, you don’t even get a hint of the person in the painting.”

“Gusto ko, in this show ma iba naman. I wanted fluorescent colors, nag-abuse ako ng pink and green, baby and infant colors.  I used acrylic para ma-todo yung pagka-neon.

As always, I avoided any serious and critical discourse.  Although, I would still call my works yung… embarrassing.

Also, as you can see, I wanted to push yung non-representational.”
