Ferdie Montemayor As 1

Ferdie Montemayor, "Lakad", acrylic on canvas, 50.8x203.2cm/ 20x80 in.

It’s about time.  I can’t remember when Ferdie Montemayor last went solo.  He has made his presence felt through numerous group exhibits in recent years.  Surely, an artist with as much fans as he does deserves to star in his own show.  This outing at Tin-Aw Art Gallery has been a long time coming, but perhaps, the wait has made it all the more satisfying.

No need to wonder why Ferdie’s works resonate with the average urbanite.  Those of us who live in this mega metropolis of 12 million people know that the most significant events require us to move in droves. Whether People Power revolutions or feast day celebrations, walking for a cause or negotiating our daily commute on EDSA, we Metro Manilans take these on en masse, as a collective, as one.

Ferdie’s acrylic on canvas paintings impart our communal experiences as singular patterns, monochromatic blurs, that break up into more defined figures on closer inspection.  They mirror how we actually go through these events— a multitude may run a marathon or participate in a procession, but each one’s exploit is unique.

Ferdie Montemayor, 1, runs from 13 April to 5 May 2012 at Tin-Aw Art Gallery, Upper G/F, Somerset Olympia Makati, Makati Avenue cor Sto. Tomas St., Makati City.  Phone (632) 892-7522 or visit www.tin-aw.com
