I’ve had the good fortune to view pieces from Isa Lorenzo and Rachel Rillo’s private art collection before, an invitation I wouldn’t have passed up. The chance of savoring Rachel’s cooking served as an equally strong lure as the superb art they laid out for our enjoyment. I think that it’s great that they’ve mounted selected works at silverlens, the gallery they own and manage. A Photography Collection allows their clients and supporters to share in their affinity for an art form that they both practice so well.
Their collection includes a life-sized Robert Rauschenberg lithograph and a series of stitched photographs from Andy Warhol. They also have several works by Hiroshi Sugimoto. My favorite one, Hyena-Jackal-Vulture, has captured a tableau of these scavengers of death out in the wild. On the local front, Isa and Rachel display several pieces by Wawi Navarozza, one of Poklong Anading’s photographs from his Anonymity series, a cyanotype self-portrait by Kawayan de Guia, and (surprise!) MM Yu and Nona Garcia’s wonderful collaboration of framed light boxes, Hallow/Hollow. Neal Oshima’s and their own work round up the exhibit.
Thank you Isa and Rachel for sharing a portion of your collection. What a nice way to end another year of exhibiting the best of Philippine art!
A Photography Collection runs from 23 November to 23 December 2011 at silverlens, 2F YMC Bldg, 2320 Pasong Tamo Extension, Makati City. Phone (632) 816-0044 or visit http://www.silverlensphoto.com
