Realities, The Ronald Ventura Book

At the book launch

These days, Ronald Ventura carries one of the most recognizable names in Philippine—even Asian— art.  We constantly discuss the millions of pesos (and after the Christie’s Spring Auctions in May, the million dollars) his pieces command in the salerooms in Hong Kong.  While we marvel at his incredible technique, we moan about the impossibly long waiting list for any of his works. Many of us, even the most ardent art collectors, tend to forget that Ronald’s success today has meant more than a dozen years of consistency and confidence, of pushing the boundaries, of staying ahead of the game, of ignoring the skeptics and enduring controversy.

Realities RONALD VENTURA, the monograph published by Damiani, an Italian publishing house for art and photography books, takes us through the highlights of Ronald’s practice thus far.  Those who have followed the upward trajectory of his career, and even those new to his work, will enjoy skimming through the many phases of his art.  It brings us his more seminal paintings (e.g., Human Study, 2004) to the more recent Zoomanities sculptures.

A small exhibit of Ronald’s pieces accompanied the launch at Powerbooks in Greenbelt 4.  Unfortunately, only 100 copies had been brought to Manila.  Those interested in acquiring a copy should contact the Primo Marella Gallery of Milan (www.primomarellagallery.com), where Ronald will be exhibiting in the middle of 2012.

Note:  For those interested, the book is now available at the National Bookstore branch at Powerplant Mall, Rockwell Center, Makati
